Legal notice & privacy
The paperwork page. Short, because there is honestly not much to disclose.
Legal notice
Realms in Embers is a personal, non-commercial, open-source project. It is run by a private individual, not by a company: there is nothing to buy here, no ads, and no commercial purpose behind the site.
Operator and contact

Contact in English or German is welcome. This address also reaches the person responsible for all content on this site (in the sense of § 18 Abs. 2 MStV).
Licenses
The game is open source. The code is licensed under the AGPL-3.0; the story, writing, and art are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. The music is Penumbra and Song Of The Forge by Scott Buckley, released under CC BY 4.0. Full license texts and credits live in the repository.
Privacy
The short version, which is also the whole version: this game collects nothing about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no ads, and the app sets no cookies. Because the game is open source, you can check the code instead of taking my word for it.
What stays on your device
Your saves and settings live in your browser's localStorage, on your device, and are never sent anywhere. The game files themselves are cached by your browser after the first visit so it works offline; that cache is also yours alone. Delete your browser data for this site and all of it is gone. Exporting a save gives you a plain file that only you hold.
What the network sees
The game is a set of static files served by Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). When your browser requests them, Cloudflare processes the usual technical connection data (such as your IP address) to deliver the files, with the standard short-lived server logs any web host keeps. I add no logging of my own. Everything, including art, fonts, and music, is served from this site itself: no third-party embeds, no external CDNs, no outside fonts.
Playing online, if you choose to
Online war is optional and only touches the network when you use it. Every message is encrypted on your device before it leaves, with a key that lives only in the invite link's URL fragment, the part after the #, which browsers never send to any server. The relay (a Cloudflare Worker with Durable Objects) stores only opaque encrypted blobs and their order; it cannot read a move, a name, or a word of table talk. Rooms are deleted after about 14 days without activity. The name you enter at the table travels inside those encrypted messages and is readable only by the people you invited.
The Wayhouse: open tables are public on purpose
One deliberate exception to the sealed-room rule. If you post your table to the Wayhouse (the open-table board for finding strangers to play with), that advertisement (your table's name, seat count, clock, and invite link) is encrypted with a key published in the game's own source code, which means anyone running the game can read it. That is the point: it is a notice board. Post nothing there and nothing of yours is ever readable by strangers. Ads expire after 30 minutes without a heartbeat and are withdrawn when your table starts or you leave.
Nothing is sold or shared
No data is sold, shared, or handed to anyone, which is easy to promise when almost none exists in the first place.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR), and the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Since this site holds no personal data about you, most of these have nothing to act on, but the rights and the contact address above are yours regardless.
